Why didn't my alert go off?

A few things can prevent alerts from firing. The most common causes are low volume or a silenced device, location permissions not set correctly, Background App Refresh being disabled, or a poor network connection. See the troubleshooting checklist below for step-by-step guidance.

What location permission does Vigil need?

Vigil works with location set to "While Using." You do not need to set it to "Always Allow," though doing so does not cause any issues. You can manage this in iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Vigil.

Does Vigil work with the screen off?

Yes. Vigil monitors your location in the background and will alert you even when your screen is off or your phone is locked. However, the app must be running in the background — if you have force-quit the app, alerts will not fire.

Can I have multiple alarms active at the same time?

Yes. You can set as many alarms as you like and have multiple monitoring your location simultaneously. Each alarm will alert you independently when you enter its radius.

How do I set the alert radius?

When creating or editing an alarm, use the slider to choose how close you need to be to your destination before the alert fires. A smaller radius means the alert will trigger closer to your destination.

Can I edit an alarm that is already active?

Yes. You can edit an active alarm at any time and Vigil will automatically update the monitoring state for you. There is no need to delete and recreate it.

What happens when an alarm fires?

You will receive a notification alert with sound. Tapping the notification will open Vigil directly to the fired alarm so you can dismiss it. While an alarm is active but hasn't fired yet, a Live Activity will be visible on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.

How do I delete a saved alarm?

There are three ways to delete an alarm — swipe left on it in the list, open the alarm's detail view and use the delete option there, or go to Settings → Data Management to delete all alarms at once.

Will Vigil drain my battery?

Vigil uses standard iOS location tracking, which has a modest impact on battery life while an alarm is actively monitoring your location. When no alarms are active, Vigil has no meaningful battery impact.

How do I disable iCloud sync?

You can turn off iCloud sync from within the app in the Settings view. After toggling it off, a restart of the app is required for the change to take effect. Your pins will remain stored locally on your device.
